White vs Bright

Every now and then we will have a consultation with bride who is very interested in using a bright and colorful bouquet instead of the traditional white or ivory tones. Even though we always do whatever makes our clients most happy, we like to give them a small piece of bouquet advice. Naturally, the human eye is drawn to bright colors. Using color can distract the guests away from the great details that they only have seconds to take in as the bride walks down the aisle. If the bride is carrying color the guests could miss all the beautiful detail in the gown, in her hair and veil, or on her sweet nervous face. Although, colored blooms are gorgeous we like for brides to consider this before deciding.

Fabulous Flower Friday!

This isn't a post meant to 'toot our own horn', but regardless of how simple or over the top an arrangement might be, there is nothing we love more than a gorgeous flower arrangement. Whether it's the combination of the colors or the floral varieties, we love creating something that makes you want to stand back, take it in and say "man, that's just gorgeous!"

The picture below, for us, does just that. It's a simple floral wreath that was placed on the front door of a client's home for their daughter's wedding day. Our favorite part? The combination of the floral varieties and the colors. The amazing spring flowers, coupled with the perfect spring color palate; you really can't go wrong!

Fun Fact? Because of the Florida heat, placing flowers in the sun is a result of perfect timing. This was also the door where the bride and her bridal party processed from, and of course was in direct sunlight. In order to make sure the flowers didn't get completely fried by the time of the big moment, this was placed 45 minutes before the ceremony started to ensure it's beauty. :)

Flower Blues?

Many Brides come to us with hopes of having their floral decor in blue tones. There are not too many naturally blue flowers out there and spraying and dying flowers is always an avoidable option. Here are a few inspirational pictures that can give you an idea of how to incorporate blue into your floral decor.

Blue Berries:
Not only does it give you a darker jewel toned blue, but it adds texture and interest.

Grape Hyacinths:
If their vibrant color doesn't win you over, their smell will! These plump blue flowers are perfect in the springtime and look great alone or even as an accent flower.

Blue Iris:

These delicate blooms are a good addition to many other floral varieties. Their small pop of yellow in the center is beautiful and gives way to other coordinating yellow options.

Color Combinations

Many Brides come to us with a set color palette and have a hard time visualizing something else added in that may help their colors come to life more. Whether its touches of chartreuse to go with your blue or purple scheme, or another color within the selected family, it's an addition that could really take your flowers up a notch. We love using several shades in a particular color family because they give bouquets and arrangements a great sense of dimension.

Royal Bouquet

Now that Kate Middleton has walked down the aisle her bouquet will be copied over and over again. It consisted of a combination of white flowers such as, Lily of the Valley, Hyacinth, Sweet William (of course!), and the traditional Myrtle grown from the same Myrtle tree that Queen Victoria's bouquet was made from. Brides will most likely be surprised as to the cost of using Lily of the Valley as it remains to be one of the more expensive flowers throughout year.
